Acceptable formats
There are hundreds of different software packages available to produce artwork. However, technical and quality issues determine that we are only able to handle artwork in the following formats within our production department:
- Adobe Acrobat PDF (PDFs created with any other software cannot be guaranteed to work correctly)
- EPS files with all fonts embedded
- ADS file (Artwork Delivery System)
- Adfast
Unacceptable formats
- Quark documents
- Word documents
- Excel documents
- Microsoft Publisher documents
- PowerPoint documents
- JPG files (usually type in this format produces poorly)

General requirements
Please ensure that artwork is clearly labelled with either our URN or the advertiser’s name. If supplying in a folder this also must be clearly labelled.
Advertisements must be set to the correct size, with no white space surround and no slug lines or registration marks.
ALL fonts must be converted to curves/paths. If this is not strictly adhered to, text will appear in Courier typeface when output. Under no circumstances can we add additional fonts onto our systems.
ALL pictures must be embedded If this is not strictly adhered to, the pictures will appear, at best, as low resolution when output. Archant’s computer system may error if a picture is missing and may not output the advertisement/page on which the artwork is present.
We will not, under any circumstances, alter or amend any electronically submitted advertisements – any changes/alterations must be made by agencies and re-submitted.
Fonts and pictures
- Quark Xpress .eps will embed pictures (if they are not missing) but will not convert fonts to curves/paths.
- Adobe Illustrator will import a Quark Xpress .eps and allow fonts to be converted.
- Freehand v7.0 upwards allows pictures to be embedded and fonts to be converted. Earlier versions of Freehand do not support embedding of pictures.
- Corel Draw automatically embeds pictures and allows fonts to be converted.
- Adobe InDesign will embed pictures and fonts. Please do NOT save as a .pdf from this software as Archant Suffolk cannot always guarantee the results, save as (export) .eps and then convert to pdf via Adobe Acrobat Distiller. Note: True Type fonts should not be used.
- Adobe Acrobat PDFs are acceptable. Ensure that the Press Optimised job options is selected within Distiller, that all fonts are embedded and that the resolution is 1200 dpi. Note: True Type fonts should not be used.
Colours and inks
- Only CMYK colour scans should be used, any RGB files submitted with artwork may not separate correctly when processed.
- Pictures must be scanned with a screen ruling of 100 lpi.

We offer a basic complimentary design service. Bespoke advert design is available on request at an additional charge.
All bookings include a link through to your chosen website.

Supplied copy
Supplied copy can be submitted as a single flat JPEG, an animated GIF, or a Flash animation. We do not support unfolding, pop-up or hovering adverts.
Small filesizes mean adverts display more quickly. All supplied adverts should be a maximum of 80k, but preferably smaller.
To maximise compatibility we recommended targeting Flash animations to the Flash 6 player.
